How to FTP from command line:

If you need to transfer or retrieve data to or from your  FTP account, you need to establish connection to the ftp account. This can be done simply using your local Windows or Linux system. Hence you can upload or download contents on your ftp account.

To connect to any FTP server from windows open the command prompt and for Linux open terminal window. Now you have required IP or Hostname of FTP server and login credentials to connect with specific user.

Use the command below to connect to the FTP account,

ftp <IP address or hostname >

Replace the field after ftp with the IP address or hostname of the ftp server. For example see the full command below,

ftp 8.8.8.8
ftp server.iserversupport.com

Now it will connect to the ftp server and you need to login to the server using the ftp user name and password.

See the following sample output of the command,

ftp> [[email protected] ~]$ ftp 208.100.100.108
Connected to 208.100.100.108 (208.100.100.108).
